Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Public health campaigns are essential for raising awareness about health issues, promoting healthy behaviors, and preventing diseases. Photography has proven to be a powerful tool in these campaigns, offering a visual means of communication that transcends language barriers and captures attention. In Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State, photography has been utilized to highlight critical public health issues such as maternal health, sanitation, and immunization drives. According to Ibrahim and Hassan (2024), photography in public health campaigns enhances message retention and emotional engagement, making health messages more relatable and impactful. Despite its potential, the use of photography in public health campaigns in Nguru is limited by challenges such as lack of professional photographers, inadequate funding, and cultural sensitivities. This study investigates the impact of photography on public health campaigns in Nguru, focusing on its effectiveness, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

While photography can significantly enhance public health campaigns, its application in Nguru is constrained by challenges such as inadequate resources, cultural barriers, and limited expertise. These issues reduce the effectiveness of photography in conveying health messages and inspiring behavior change. This study addresses this gap by examining the role of photography in public health campaigns in Nguru.
